Volunteers play an invaluable role at PHAN. The agency and the community benefit from the generosity, skills and dedication of our volunteers, who collectively contribute over 2,000 hours each year. We could not offer our wide range of services without the thousands of volunteer hours donated by committed individuals like you!
We offer many areas in which volunteers can choose where to focus their time and energy.
Office Administration
Office volunteers are the first staff people see when they walk into PHAN. As an office volunteer, you will have the opportunity to be a voice of the organization. Responsibilities include taking calls, helping with meeting and event arrangements and welcoming clients.
Community Education/Outreach
Outreach is an important way to engage with individuals and communities who may not otherwise know about our services. Responsibilities include distribution of harm reduction supplies, helping with workshops for target populations and the service providers who work with them, and making connections with communities and organizations in Peel.
Online Outreach
Online outreach volunteers meet target populations where they are online to promote sexual health and harm reduction as well as offer support to individuals who need it.
Fundraising
Fundraising is a vital part of PHAN as money raised helps to fund all of our support, outreach, and prevention efforts throughout the year. Fundraising volunteers help to plan, promote, and implement events. They also conduct outreach to potential donors and sponsors.
Research
Research helps us to determine which programs and services are most needed in different communities. Research volunteers work with program coordinators to conduct and analyze research projects in target populations, as well as to help with short-term research tasks to help with various events and programs.
All volunteers are expected to uphold PHAN’s values, including confidentiality. If you would like to contribute your time and skills to our organization on a regular, semi-regular, or single event basis, please apply to active postings here.
Neil volunteers as our receptionist and in harm reduction and outreach. Neil started volunteering at PHAN in 2008 because he wanted to make a difference in his community. As a full-time volunteer, he likes that PHAN gives him something to look forward to doing every day and calls it a great place to learn new skills and to connect with a diverse network of people.
