Men’s Health Promotion & Community Education Coordinator

 (Permanent Full-time)

The Peel HIV/AIDS Network (PHAN) is committed to serving diverse people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to limit the spread of the virus through support, education, advocacy and volunteerism. We are currently seeking a full-time Men’s Health Promotion & Community Education Coordinator. 

The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Coordinator provides direct health promotion and community education services on HIV/AIDS to men in the Region of Peel.  With a focus on gay, bisexual, transgender men and other men who have sex with men, the coordinator will work to increase the knowledge regarding HIV transmission and related issues among the target population.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifying individual and collective needs of target populations in the Peel Region and conducting targeted outreach and intervention activities to at-risk populations.
  • Developing and distributing resource materials, conducting educational training and presentation, and implementing and evaluating programs that address target population needs.
  • Representing the agency at the Ontario Men’s Health Sexual Alliance (formerly provincial gay men strategy), other regional and local networks, and working in collaboration with community partners to develop and deliver program activities.
  • Acting as a liaison, providing capacity building for and building collaborative partnerships with service providers, agencies and coalitions around HIV/AIDS in the Peel Region in advancing LGBT and HIV prevention initiatives.
  • Working closely with other members of the agency’s Health Promotion Team.
  • Providing increased knowledge, changes in attitudes, modified behavior, and build more supportive communities in response to HIV/AIDS in the Region.

Qualification and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably related to education and social services.
  • Demonstrated experience providing education to youth and adults in various settings.
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of HIV/AIDS, gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender and related psycho-social issues as well as knowledge of community resources and government social service agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience with program needs assessment, planning, development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Experience with volunteer co-ordination, supervision and support.
  • The ability to represent the agency and its service users effectively to the community and other service providers; and experience with both individual and systemic advocacy.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • The ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
  • The ability to work with diverse populations and issues.
  • Basic office and computer skills, and experience of using internet and social networking tools.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends when required in a variety or social and physical settings.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle

Salary: $40,000 to $42,000 per annum plus benefits

Harm Reduction Coordinator

 (Permanent Full-time)

The Peel HIV/AIDS Network (PHAN) is committed to serving diverse people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to limit the spread of the virus through support, education, advocacy and volunteerism. We are currently seeking a full-time Harm Reduction Coordinator.

The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director, the position plans, coordinates and implements the Outreach Support and Harm Reduction programs and services of the agency; including the Safe Point Needle Exchange, prevention activities targeted at-risk populations and other community outreach initiatives. In addition, the Harm Reduction Coordinator will work with the Support Department to provide services for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS and/or substance use, including education, support and prevention strategies.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide harm reduction materials/supplies to injection drug use population in catchment areas through the Needle Exchange Programs and Outreach programs in the Region of Peel.
  • Coordinate the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of educational and outreach materials for the Harm Reduction and outreach programs
  • Develop and deliver prevention and Harm reduction presentations/messages to target populations
  • Develop and maintain partnership opportunities to provide information and resource materials to promote the health of clients affected by HIV/AIDS and/or substance use.
  • Provide information regarding concrete support services and educational materials  for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS and/or substance use and to cope more effectively with issues and concerns related to HIV/AIDS and or/substance use
  • To engage volunteers and ex-users as peer ambassadors within the Outreach programs
  • Working closely with other members of the agency’s Health Promotion Team.
  • Providing increased knowledge, changes in attitudes, modified behavior, and build more supportive communities in response to HIV/AIDS in the Region.

Qualification and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in social services or related field combined with individual counseling and case management  skills and at least 1 year of counseling experience
  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of addictions, sexuality and harm reduction principles and, the ability to understand and practice harm reduction principles as they relate to substance use and sexual activity.
  • Demonstrated effective group facilitation skills and case management skills along with a strong ability to work from a client centered approach in a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience with program needs assessment, planning, development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, to anticipate potential problems/conflicts and take appropriate actions and to meet deadlines.
  • Basic office and computer skills, and experience of using internet and social networking tools.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends when required in a variety or social and physical settings.

Salary: $41,000 to $43,000 per annum plus benefits

PHA Capacity Building Worker

(Contract Part-time- 0.8 FTE)

The Peel HIV/AIDS Network (PHAN) is committed to serving diverse people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to limit the spread of the virus through support, education, advocacy and volunteerism. We are currently seeking a Part-time PHA Capacity Building Worker.

The Position

Reporting and working closely with the Client Care Coordinator (Support Team Lead), the PHA Capacity Building Worker will help develop and promote agency services for people living with HIV/AIDS (PHA) and the affected community members in the Peel Region. The incumbent will also assist in providing support in program and services delivery as directed by the Support Department.

The position facilitates increased knowledge about HIV and HIV related stigma, changes in attitudes, modified behavior, and builds more supportive communities in response to HIV/AIDS.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Develops and maintain treatment, health, service access and skills development resources for people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Develops, implements and evaluates appropriate skills development events and activities for people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Liaison with PHA skills development, learning and mentorship opportunities in the broader communities to ensure matching and participation of PHAs from Region of Peel.
  • Be an information resource for PHAs on a one-to-one and group basis
  • Liaise with Volunteer Program to ensure volunteer resources are trained on issues related to PHAs and ensure appropriate volunteering opportunities for PHAs.
  • Develop and maintain activity statistics, maintain appropriate program files and file regular reports on all activities and evaluative analysis
  • Working closely with PHA Support Team, including PHA engagement worker.

Qualification and Skills:

  • Lived experience with HIV/AIDS preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in project coordination and documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of popular education, social marketing and group facilitation, and the ability to maintain interests and motivate participation of clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary team/stakeholders on needs assessment and program planning.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer and office skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and to be accountable to team process.
  • Demonstrated experience and or knowledge working with diverse populations, such as gender, youth, ethno-racial, faith and sexual orientation.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends when required in a variety or social and physical settings.
  • Completion of OAN Leadership, ABRPO Facilitation, CAAT Peer Treatment Counseling Training or PWA Speakers’ Bureau training an asset
  • Valid driver’s license and access to use of a vehicle.

Salary: $37,000 to $38,000 per annum pro-rated (i.e. $29,600 to 30,400 p.a.) plus benefits

PHA Engagement Worker

 (Contract Part-time- 0.6 FTE)

The Position

Reporting and working closely with the Client Care Coordinator (Support Team Lead), the PHA Capacity Building Worker will help develop and promote agency services for people living with HIV/AIDS (PHA) and the affected community members in the Peel Region.   • Coordinate the Communication and Outreach to people living with HIV/AIDS in diverse communities in Region of Peel.
  • Maintains and updates the Directory of community and services relevant to PHAs, to ensure agency’s appropriate liaison are maintained through staff and volunteers with such contacts.
  • Liaise with PHAN’s communication coordinator to ensure PHA experiences and issues are represented, and ensure appropriate information dissemination to PHAs.
  • Liaise with Volunteer Program to ensure volunteer resources are trained and available for PHA engagement events and activities.
